THERAPEUTIC RIDING HORSE SHOW
Saturday May 19 at WindReach Riding Stables
At a very wet WindReach on Saturday, May 19th , 21 riders took part in seven events at the end of year Therapeutic Riding Horse Show. The events included games of skill which involved the riders steering their ponies, identifying colours and picking up rings and then steering their ponies back to their assigned buckets and dropping the rings in the buckets, riding obstacle courses and independently ridden dressage tests. All events are designed to be fun and also to gently challenge each and every rider. The games help the riders with their balance, co-ordination, strength, problem solving, social and verbal skills. Many of our special needs riders endure hours of therapy a week that is often uncomfortable, painful and on many occasions in a room away from friends and classmates. However with therapeutic riding, the thrill of being on a horse, riding with their friends and playing games, takes away the negatives and therapy occurs without the rider realising. There were many wonderful parents, family members and friends cheering the riders on. Mr. John Lang the Chairman of WindReach Board awarded the participants their medals and certificates.
WindReach would like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s show a wonderful success.
